How it started
It started with one woman who refused to look away.
Alice Clearwater has been hurt by men.
She has also been loved, protected and lifted up by amazing men.
She could have closed the door. Instead, she did the hard inner work. And the deeper she went, the clearer it became. So many men are in pain, and most of them are carrying it in silence.
Alice decided she wasn't going to stand on the sidelines.
In early 2024, she walked into Amend Movement with an idea. Bring men together. Put them on the rowers for 24 hours straight. Raise money for men's mental health, and start the conversations men so rarely get to have.
That idea became the 24-Hour Row.
Why we said yes without hesitating.
At Amend, men's mental health isn't a side project. It's the heart of everything we do.
We've seen it again and again. When a man truly understands himself, everything around him starts to change. He shows up differently for his partner. His partner grows too. And together, two whole, healthy adults build the kind of home where children can thrive.
One man doing the work can change a whole family.
Alice's idea was a chance to reach more of those men. We were in from day one.

In both countries, the suicide rate for men is around three times the rate for women.
Australia: Australian Bureau of Statistics, Intentional self-harm (suicide) deaths, 2024 (released November 2025, preliminary revision May 2026). 2,529 of 3,307 people who died by suicide in 2024 were male (76.5%, preliminary). Age-standardised rate 18.4 per 100,000 males compared with 5.6 per 100,000 females (preliminary revised).
New Zealand: Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and the Office of the Chief Coroner, suspected self-inflicted deaths, 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 (provisional). 474 of 630 deaths were male (75%). Rate 16.2 per 100,000 males compared with 5.8 per 100,000 females.
Behind every number is a man.
A father.

The 24-Hour Row isn't going to solve men's suicide.
But it can start conversations.
It can raise money.
It can bring people together.
And it can remind men that they don't have to carry everything alone.
